Condolences

My condolences to the Cangero family and the passing of George. George was my second cousin. He was my dad, Stan's (they used to call Sonny) first cousin. Any time I spoke to someone that went to Sachem, they all said George was an amazing man. I'll share a quick story. I went to play golf at Offspray in Boca Raton and when I got there the gentleman behind the counter asked for my name. I said Cangero, they said are you Greg or George? I kind of laughed and said they were my cousins. I also leased a BMW back around 93 in Smithtown and they asked the same thing. It's funny how we kind of traveled in the same circles. Unfortunately after moving to Florida about 20 years ago we lost touch. I can't emphasize enough that anyone who knew him couldn't say enough nice things about him. He will be missed. May you rest in peace George. ♥️🙏 - Paul Cangero

My condolences for the passing of George, he was my father's cousin. I am Sonny's daughter Dana. I remember meeting George years ago my grandmother lived on the same block. Throughout our years growing up in Lake Grove whenever anyone heard our last name we were asked if we were related to "Mr. Cangero" he was well liked and highly regarded. May he rest in peace and hopefully playing a few rounds of golf with my dad ❤

We are all better people having known George. Our deepest sympathies go out to his entire family, who he so fondly spoke about whenever we were out on the golf course. We were fortunate to have our son, Eli on the FSC golf team these last 4 years and Coach Cangero AWLAYS went the extra mile to reassure me, (a worried mom whose son was away at college), that he was in good hands, safe, and doing well. He took the time to tell me that my son was a good kid and sent video and pictures from the road and when they went to Nationals in KY because we couldn't be there. Most importantly, George impacted his student athlete golfers in ways that will stay with them their entire lives. He instilled professionalism, compassion, good sportsmanship and modeled it in all he did. I will miss the chats we had about teaching (I'm a public school teacher too) and the insights he shared about life in general. I'm forever grateful that my son spent the last several years under George's guidance and reading about the many lives he touched, we know we were one of the lucky ones to have had any time at all with him. What a remarkable and exceptional human being.

He was our favorite teacher and I speak of him even to this day. He was a teacher, role model, friend and mentor to us students. I will never forget him.

An amazing person. Fond memories of the greatest teacher. It means something when you can still speak of a teacher that has made an impact in your life. He will be remembered always. Prayers for his family. May God hold him in the palm of his hands. Rest In Peace Mr Cangero. "Life is a sine wave".

He was my favorite teacher in 1975. Always a smile on his face. If it wasn't how hard he helped me I never would have Grady. Loved him very much and so sorry to hear this. He will never be forgotten.

I am heartbroken to hear this. Mr. Cangero was more than our advisor in the class of 1982. You were my friend and my support system, even as an adult. We stayed in touch and ran into each other in church and around town. Heaven has gained a special angel and has left a giant hole in my heart forever. Rest In Peace my friend.

With our deepest sympathy. Our boys lives have been forever touched with your love. You showed them much more than the game of golf...you showed them what it's like to be a gentleman and good and honorable men. They had a special bond with you Coach and you will be missed dearly. We pray in time your memories will always make your family's heart smile. RIP Fondly, Marianne & Kevin Keaveny

When I quote a song as a teacher, I can't help but to remember Mr. C. Saying "Would you like to swing from a star and carry moon beans home in a jar and be better off than you are or would you rather be a mule?" It made me so elated l sharing my experiences connecting with students over the years because he was the master. Every December 3rd, I looked forward to texting the Sachem icon the sin of 30 is 1/2. Not really sure what that means, but will never forget the most genuine, inspiring teacher whose passion for his craft has afforded me 25 years of feeling like I have had a purpose. Thanks to Mr.C I learned teaching is like swinging from a star and that noticing compares to basking in the glory of your students' success.
