Obituary For Gerhard Spory

SPORY - Gerhard “Gery” of Commack on February 29, 2024, at 85 years of age. Born in Germany, he emigrated to New York at three months of age. A graduate of Brooklyn Technical High School he attended Dean College and graduated from Marrietta College. He later completed his master’s and earned his PhD at Ohio State University where he met Patricia whom he would marry in 1963. Gery took pride in the couple’s 1951 Chrysler Crown Imperial convertible, so much so he bought a second and would enter the cars in many shows. Gery spent two years teaching at Deer Park Junior High School and later a professor of microbiology at Farmingdale State University. He enjoyed running, camping, beekeeping, playing the piano and restoring cars and houses. He especially loved his seven-acre farm and 150-year-old farmhouse in Pennsylvania with a large barn and pond. Devoted husband of Patricia Spory. Cherished father of Philip (Hong), Elisa, and Karen (Brian). Treasured grandfather of Stephen, Thomas, Juliette, and Andre. Gery was a proud member of many organizations and will be missed by his many friends and colleagues but especially by his cat, Tootsie. Memorial visitation Saturday from 10:00 am -12:00 pm at Brueggemann Funeral Home - 522 Larkfield Road, East Northport. Funeral Service Saturday, 11:30 am. www.bfhli.com

What a wonderful brother-in-law. I remember all the great meals he made. How he always made me feel welcome in his home. I will miss him and his smile. May love and memories help soften your sorrow and fill you with God's love. Judy and Jack Malloy
