Obituary For Stuart Allan William McGill

It is with heavy hearts we mournfully announce the passing of Stuart Allan William McGill. Stuart passed away at the Central Peace Health Complex on April 14, 2024 at the age of 57 years after a long battle with Huntington’s Disease.

Stuart was born in Richmond, British Columbia on November 13, 1966. Stuart then moved out to Dawson Creek, British Columbia with his family when he was in elementary school. He attended Parkville Elementary School and then O-Brian Elementary, then Central Middle School and the South Peace Senior High School in Dawson Creek. Stuart was into home computers, fishing, camping, cars, and games. As a young boy, Stuart was a very adventurous kid and would spend days out in the woods with his brother David, “fending for themselves.” Stuart and David would buy every survival handbook, from how to make a shelter to how to catch an animal.

Stuart’s work passion was being an electronic technician. He was a man of faith and he enjoyed serving the Lord. Stuart married his wife, Shirley, on June 7, 1997. They had their first daughter, Sara, in 1998, and their youngest daughter, Jennifer, in 1999. Stuart was a wonderful husband and father and always did what he could to support and care for his family. He was kind, caring, funny and always loved to listen. Over 10 years ago, Stuart started presenting symptoms of Huntington’s Disease and despite the illness, he still wanted to support his family and did everything he could to stay healthy, active, and happy. He was strong and resilient, a trait his daughters will remember and be proud of.

Stuart was a devoted husband of 26 years to Shirley McGill; proud father of Darrel Nash, Brianna Wiebe, Sara McGill-Hein (Quinten Hein) and Jennifer McGill; beloved grandfather to Nathaniel Wiebe; great uncle to Claire Welygan, Connor Welygan, and Carson Welygan; brother to David McGill (Debbie Beaulieu) and Sandra McGill (John Burback); uncle to Kyle McGill, Amber McGill, (Cody Welygan), Nathan McGill, Ben McWhirter, Caitlyn McWhirter), Amanda-Lynn McGill (Nicholas McGill), Derrick Kirkness, and Leonard Kirkness; nephew to Moira Markle; cousin to Andrew Markle and Adrian Markle, and in-law of Ken Isaac, Don Isaac, Bonnie Cyr, and Julene Isaac (Dan Brubaker).

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother Sheila Zyha, his father David McGill, his stepfather Nick Zyha, and his uncle Allan Markle.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 20th, 2024 at 1pm at Old Burnt River Bible Camp, south of Rycroft (770053 Hwy 2). Interment to follow at Spirit River Cemetery.

The McGill family invites any and all to attend Stuart’s Celebration of Life and extends a special thank you to the Central Peace Health Complex for their support, kindness, and compassion during this last week.

Donations in memory of Stuart may go to the Huntington’s Society of Canada to help find a cure. https://www.huntingtonsociety.ca/yes-i-want-to-donate/

Hey Shirley, my deepest condolence. "But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep." ‭‭I Thessalonians‬ ‭4‬:‭13‬-‭15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
