Tony, and family, I was so sorry to hear of Jim's passing. He was truly one of the most wonderful people I have known. Always smiling, a joke or a story, or something wonderful he acquired like his fold up bike which he allowed anyone who wanted to, to ride around the parking lot of our office. His students loved him and so did we, his coworkers.

Hi Dad, I remember saying on countless occasions, that I was truly blessed to have you as my father, and that if I grew up to be half the man that you are, I can count myself as being one of the most gifted people that ever walked this planet. I have never met, nor ever even read about, a father more Christ-like than you. You truly are the best representation of what God wants us all to be, and has long since reveled in what he has accomplished through you. I love you, respect you, admire you, and can never express how deeply I feel about you you, nor can I express how thankful I am to have had you in my life for the past 60 years. You have touched so many people and emulated God's love to each and every one of them. I promise to carry on what you started, in your honor, so that others may see you and Our Lord, through me. I know you are in heaven, so I do not plan to pray for you, but rather, to you, to pray for me as I continue to try to become half the person you were! I love you dad...until we meet again, Ant.

When I think of words to describe Dad, I think if: 1. Devotion. Devoted to God, the church, his faith, our Mom, his family, his friends 2. Generosity: A man who genuinely and selflessly gave to others in need, living a life of humble service to others 3. Positivity. Whose kind heart allowed him to focus on the good in others, whose faith enabled forgiveness and whose belief in everlasting life led him to lead a life of purity. We learn so much over the course of our lives but I've learned the most from Mom and Dad. It's the everyday examples of how they led their lives with kindness, faith, unconditional love, always emphasizing the importance of family and togetherness- that will forever shape who I am. We have been truly blessed.

It is with a sad heart that I report the passing of my father, James Levens, on September 27, 2022. He was eighty-seven. This comes eight months after losing my mother, Connie. Married sixty-two years, it's clear they wanted to be together always. Living for most of his earlier years in East New York, Brooklyn, Jim spent the late 1950s in Germany as a vehicle mechanic in the Army. The skills he acquired there were enough to secure him a seat in auto mechanic roles at General Motors for over forty subsequent years. A very devout Catholic, like my mother, they met when he offered to walk her home after a church group mingle. Warning sirens were sounded in Brooklyn that night, and residents followed the instructions to turn out their lights. As anyone who knows him will attest, my father had a personality beyond unique, if such a thing were possible. You might refer to someone at times as living on another planet. With Jim, that would be another galaxy. He was a genius at fixing anything mechanical, usually involving approaches and implements much simpler than you would have thought. Sometimes he was quite innovative in his repair technique, earning the title The King of Makeshift. One day, in my early twenties, I remember coming home and seeing my car jacked up in the driveway, my father underneath it. I was not aware my Chevelle had any serious problems. When I asked him what he was doing, he rolled out on the dolly and said he was installing a fuel cut-off valve under the passenger seat. "Use it whenever you park the car and no one will ever steal it," he said. No one ever did. This good man was an extremely kind individual, and I have never seen him in a bad mood or seriously argue with anyone in my family. Never. He had a gentle manner about him, but that is not so say he was quiet. When he entered a room, everyone knew. If you were in need of a wristwatch, or a flashlight, or a knife, just ask Jim. He was always more than happy to show you his collections and let you pick one for your very own. I have posted a picture here of our makeshift king getting ready to start a fire in the fireplace, yet you will not have seen such a wood-burning stove elsewhere. This one he fashioned from a discarded section of a New York City water main pipe. It heated our house on Long Island during the Ice Storm of 1977, when most of the Island was without power for at least five days. While others might have been trying to stay warm, our family and our neighbors were sweating in this room. In his last days, I was with him when two of his long-time buddies paid a visit. What he said to them at one point will stay with me forever: "I want you to remember to pray TO me. I am going to do everything I can to help you out." I am going to do that also, Dad -- pray To you and not FOR you -- and I know you will, as always, do your best to help me out. Love, Joey

Uncle Jimmy got my brothers and sisters and I through college by generously keeping our old junk heep cars running. He charged us very little , what we could afford. He loved Our Lord and Our Blessed Mother very very much and was so devoted to his wife , Aunt Connie, and his children . He was my dad's best friend. Rest peacefully uncle Jimmy you are home now.

Although, sadly, we have not seen Jimmy in a long time he will always be remembered as Uncle Jimmy.

Mr. Levens was one of the men who helped my shooting career very much. He always had time to talk with me about any question I had and was never condescending or assuming. Mr. Levens was a great man, I will never forget him.

Our sincere condolences from the Nocturnal Adoration Society at St. Anthony of Padua Parish for Jim's family and his loved ones. Jim was a faithful servant of God and now he is home at last and at peace with our Lord. He mentioned yesterday he was ready to go "home".😇🙏 Jim was president of our Nocturnal Adoration ministry at St. Anthony's. He also was an EM and was a dedicated member of the Franciscan Order. He had tremendous faith and loved our Lord, our Blessed Mother and the Eucharist. He also loved St. Anthony's parish and performed many chores behind the scenes such as cleaning spilled wax off the Easter Candle holder, cleaning and shining the brass door on the Tabernacle, replenishing incense pellets and many other things to help his beloved parish.
