Obituary For John A. Doht
Doht, John A. - Born February 10, 1925, the son of William and Anna Doht of Roosevelt, passed away on February 20, 2022 John is reunited in heaven with is beloved wife Inge and daughter Carolyn. He is survived by three sons and spouses, John (Elise), Richard (Mary), and Robert (Patricia), and seven wonderful grandchildren, Kirsten (Kevin) Birnstill, John, Richard (Danielle), Caitlin, Ashley, Michael and Alexa, and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Birnstill. John grew up in the Village of Roosevelt, and graduated Hempstead High School in 1942. At the age of 17, he began what would become, a forty-four year career with Doubleday & Co. where he rose through the ranks to Director of Corporate Real Estate and Facilities Management. John was a veteran of the Army Air Force from 1943-46, and recalled to the US Air Force in 1951 during the Korean War.
In 1981 John was named President of Doubleday Sports Construction Management, Vice President of the Mets. In 1986, with the stadium renovations complete, and a World Series ring on his finger, John and Inge embarked on a long and gratifying retirement.
John’s philanthropic endeavors included being one of the original Founders and Treasurer of the North Babylon Youth League, and Vice President and Treasurer of the Leukemia Society of America. Visitation – Thursday 4 – 8 pm at Brueggemann Funeral Home, 522 Larkfield Road East Northport. Funeral Thursday 7:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Interment at Greenfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made in John’s name to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society www.lls.org
