  Sincere sympathies from Ireland to all the McKenna family on the passing of our cousin John. John's dedication to service is reflected in his work to record the history of his beloved Greenlawn Fire Department. He never forgot his Irish roots and took great pleasure visiting the family homesteads in Longford and Monaghan. He will be missed by all who were lucky to known him.

  John has a special place in my heart and I was so very sorry to hear of his passing. I've witness first hand his kindness and compassion when he was in the ambulance. The way he put people at ease and cared for them. I know how they feel because he did the same for me. I don't know if he knew how much I struggled when I first joined the fire department but his kindness is something I will never forget. He inspired me in my own journey as an EMT and his kindness and compassion is something I will never forget. He lives on in all the people he had an impact on in his life. Shannon King

  I have many very fond memories of Mr. McKenna from when I was a child. He was soft-spoken with a pleasant smile and kind eyes. His calm demeanor made me feel like I mattered and that I was safe. As I got older, I started thinking that he was the Firehouse Santa (at least a few times) but I never really knew for sure. I'm happy not knowing the truth and keeping my childhood belief. 😊 I'm very sorry for the family's huge loss, as well as this world losing one of the good ones. He has left a lasting legacy, great memories and a wonderful family. I know I will see him again. All my love, Lisa (Denis)
