Karen and her family—Mr. And Mrs. Merritt, Camille, and Thomas—were my second family growing up next door on Sugarwood Lane in Commack (and Camille my childhood best friend). From babysitting me and my younger sister Susan (how did she know I hadn't brushed my teeth???), to being the big sister we all looked up to, on to later memories of visits to her beautiful home in Northport and other times we were able to connect when I was in from out of town, I remember Karen's big, big smile, her sense of humor and laughter, her kindness and love. I'm so sorry for her loss—for all of her family and for the rest of the world. Even here in California I can feel an empty space where she should be. Sending love and prayers, Lorraine

Karen was one of the dearest people I ever had the good fortune to call "friend ". To her core, she was truly kind, boundlessly generous, and deeply loving. Through her compassion and interest in people, she could make everyone feel as though they were the only one in the room.
And her sense of humor! She had in her quiver what I referred to as "Karen-isms". Special little quips as only Karen could deliver. She effortlessly made me smile and laugh whenever I was with her. Conversely, she also laughed easily and often. She rewarded me with one of those deep, unabashed belly laughs when I last saw her in December. I treasure that laugh.
When thinking of Karen, we can't forget the eye rolls, though I think they were reserved exclusively for Tom. I witnessed a few teasing moments shared between them through the years, like when Tom might have commented about watching football vs Hallmark Christmas movies. Karen's response: her perfectly- timed, exaggerated eye roll.
That said, Karen's humor was surpassed by her genuine goodness. She made room in her heart for everyone. She gave tirelessly of herself, but you had to pay attention to know that about her, because she never brought attention to her good deeds. She seemed to think it was nothing special, just the natural thing to do.
Karen loved. That is probably what we will all miss the most. As her friend, I know that there is a place in our friend group that can never be filled. Karen was unique. So to her entire family, kindly accept my deepest sympathy. I have a small inkling of the depth of your loss. She spoke of each of you with pride and loved each of you so completely and that is something special.

Karen was one of those rare people who made you feel like family the moment you walked through the door. I've known her for over 20 years, and from high school onward she treated me as if I were another son; often joking that I ate more breakfasts with her and Thom than Pat did while he slept in. Those mornings, full of laughter and kindness, are memories I'll always carry with me.
Karen took such joy in Pat's life and the people he loved. She celebrated his adventures, his friendships, and every milestone with unmistakable pride and happiness. Every holiday visit came with the same warmth, hugs, and genuine interest that defined who she was.
I am endlessly grateful to Karen, not only for the love she showed me, but for raising such a wonderful son. Her generosity, humor, and heart live on through Pat and through everyone lucky enough to have known her. She will be deeply missed

I am so sorry to hear about Karen. I have known Karen first as a parent when I worked at Fifth Ave and later as a colleague at Dickinson Ave School. She was a great person, loved the children she worked with and was always willing to do what was needed. She was a great person and my prayers go our to her family.

I was so shocked and sad to learn of Karen's passing. We were not in contact as much over the past few years, but I have such great memories of our friendship when we both worked in NYC, and fun times when we were younger. Karen was such a kind woman and loved her family so much. Sending hugs and sincere condolences to Tom, Pat, Jen and Mrs Merritt. May happy memories comfort you all during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry to hear. I worked in ENMS. She was a wonderful lady. Our paths would cross shopping. Unfortunately, I'll be away this weekend. May she rest in peace.

I have been blessed to have Karen as a dear friend for over 30 years. She was a wonderful & kind lady. Such happy memories of us raising our kids. Those kids have grown into won0derful young adults. Karen loved her son, daughter, and daughter-in-law ,very proud of their accomplishments. Patrick & Nina are attorneys. Jen is a teacher. Had many lunch dates with Karen , always plenty to talk about. Had many dinner dates with Tom & John. ( How lucky our husbands were) I am going to miss my dear friend, you are suppose to be here...but God had a different plan for you. I know you are in a beautiful place ( we are promised this) you are ok..we have to learn to go on without you... love you my treasured friend...
