On Sunday, September 11, 2022, William Keen passed away peacefully at 79 years of age. He was born to William and Ruth Keen, and was predeceased by his brother Ronald Keen. He graduated from Hofstra University with a B.A. in Accounting, and enjoyed a successful career, notably 40 years at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory where he held the position of Comptroller. He also proudly served on the Board of the St. Johnland Nursing Home in Kings Park, NY. Bill married his Mineola High School sweetheart, Diana (Althoff) and shared 57 years of marriage together in Commack and Smithtown, NY. Diana and Bill have two children, Debbie Mahoney (Tim), and Randy (Maria). They have enjoyed four grandchildren, Ryan Mahoney (Michelle), Jessica Mahoney, Peyton Keen, and Taylor Keen. “Pop-Pop was the biggest cheerleader for all of his grandchildren’s sports and activities, rarely absent from any of their events. The San Francisco Giants baseball team has lost one of its biggest and most devout fans. Bill was also known for his infectious laugh, beautiful smile, quick-witted humor, guitar playing, Karaoke singing, USTA Men’s Doubles Tennis Champion, golf enthusiast, creator and manager of the Cold Spring Harbor “Lockhorns” men’s softball team, and creator and “chancellor” of the CSHL bowling League. Bill always loved to be (and had to be) part of a gathering, would say YES to any invitation, and was always the last one to leave!

I was thinking about Bill today and did a search and found out that he passed. I didn't know. I was Bill's USTA partner for many years and learned lifes secrets through the wisdom he imparted upon me when I was younger and lacked his clear wisdom on easy living. Bill made an impact on my life by telling me (through humor) that I should adapt to competition in a more lighthearted way and since then I have. He arrived at one USTA match after a Cold Spring Harbor Lab cocktail party a little rocked. I was upset. He told me "no, no, I'm viable". I'll never forget that--and we won!! I'm sorry for your loss, I loved the man, some 15 years later. Dan

So sad to hear of Bill's passing. Only had good times with Bill. He was a wonderful person. We all will remember Bill for our three national tennis teams 1997 to 1999. Tucson in 98 was the winner. The World Series game in 2001, when we took the LIRR to the stadium. Remember telling my wife that I was bringing a six pack of Heinekens. She said we couldn't bring it into the stadium. I said we had an hour train ride. She said never mind. Going to miss you Bill!

Dear Diana and family, our sincere condolences. Bill was my boss at CSHL for many years. Through the years we had many good times. Jim became good friends with Bill through bowling and other extracurricular activities!! His quick wit was unmatched! We will never forget his many Mr. Bojangles performances. He's singing with the angels now teaching them the lyrics. Rest In Peace Bill. We will never forget you!
